Evaluation of 3D Breast Surface Reconstruction Accuracy Using Non-contact Scanner Images: A Phantom Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Analysis of the breast surface deformation during mammographic compression will provide insight into breast tissue elastic properties. Our long term goal is to accurately estimate physical properties of breast tissue for the purpose of realistic deformation simulation. As a first step, we analyzed the acquisition accuracy of the reconstructed breast phantom surface using a noncontact laser scanner. The effect of the acquisition angle and the presence of the transparent compression plate covering the phantom were considered. Comparing 48 phantom surfaces, each reconstructed from 4 scanner images acquired at different positions, we observed an average acquisition error of 1.94 mm for images without the compression plate; the average acquisition error for images with the compression plate was 3.26 mm. Performance of two observers showed little variation.

A New Approach for Quantitative Evaluation of Reconstruction Algorithms in SPECT
ABTRACT Background: In nuclear medicine, phantoms are mainly used to evaluate the overall performance of the imaging systems and practically there is no phantom exclusively designed for the evaluation of the software performance. In this study the Hoffman brain phantom was used for quantitative evaluation of reconstruction techniques. The phantom is modified to acquire t...
متن کاملUltra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...
متن کاملInfluences of reconstruction and attenuation correction in brain SPECT images obtained by the hybrid SPECT/CT device: evaluation with a 3‐dimensional brain phantom
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influences of reconstruction and attenuation correction on the differences in the radioactivity distributions in 123I brain SPECT obtained by the hybrid SPECT/CT device. Methods: We used the 3-dimensional (3D) brain phantom, which imitates the precise structure of gray mater, white matter and bone regions. It was filled with 123I solution (20...
متن کاملA Comparative Study of Breast Surface Reconstruction for Aesthetic Outcome Assessment
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer type in women, and while its survival rate is generally high the aesthetic outcome is an increasingly important factor when evaluating different treatment alternatives. 3D scanning and reconstruction techniques offer a flexible tool for building detailed and accurate 3D breast models that can be used both pre-operatively for surgical planning and post-...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of FBP Reconstruction in SPECT Imaging
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to define the optimal parameters for the tomographic reconstruction procedure in a routine single photon emission tomography. The Hoffman brain phantom is modified to evaluate the reconstruction method. The phantom was imaged in a 3 and 2-dimensional conformation and the results were compared. Materials and Methods: The 2D phant...
